Let\u2019s discuss the key differences between these application types, the pros and cons of each, and how to decide which option is best for you or your child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Is Early Decision?<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Early Decision (ED) is a <em>binding<\/em> agreement between a student and a college. That means if you apply ED and are accepted, you <em>must<\/em> attend that school and withdraw all other college applications. No exceptions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>-Deadline: Usually November 1 or November 15<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-Decision Released: Mid-December<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here are the pros of ED:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>-Demonstrates strong interest and commitment, which can boost your chances at selective schools!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-You\u2019ll receive your admission decision early, which can help ease stress during senior year and remove the uncertainty and wait, especially if this is your top-choice college.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here are the cons:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>-It\u2019s binding. You must enroll in this college.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-You can\u2019t compare financial aid offers from other schools. This is a big con for many students.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-You must have a clear top-choice school and be ready to commit.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Early Decision is best for students who have researched thoroughly, visited campuses, and know exactly where they want to go.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you apply ED,<strong> <\/strong>you sign a binding agreement stating that if you\u2019re accepted you will attend that college and withdraw all other applications. This agreement is <em>also signed by your parent\/guardian and your school counselor<\/em>, so it\u2019s not just a student promise, it\u2019s a formal understanding between you, your family, your school, and the college. If accepted, you must immediately withdraw applications to other colleges.
