At that point, families often lose any leverage they might have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For private colleges in particular, there may still be room to request clarification, negotiate the financial aid offer, and even request additional merit- or need-based assistance. But that conversation typically happens before you say yes, not after.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Right Time to Talk to Financial Aid<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>After you\u2019ve received your financial aid offer letter, this is the ideal time to schedule a meeting or call with the financial aid office. This is your opportunity to ask thoughtful questions about any awards you received or did not receive, share additional information or changes in your financial situation, and request the aid office to consider offering you additional assistance.
