Why 8th Grade is the New Junior Year<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you ask any HS senior if they had one do-over, what it would be, the vast majority would say, “I wish I had been more prepared as a freshman.” The transition from middle school to high school is often a learning curve both academically and socially, with many 9th graders struggling to find their footing in the big hallways of high school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, some of the most successful, competitive students, who adapt well, are those who are prepared with a purposeful roadmap and a plan. Beginning this preparation in 8th grade is essential in helping students successfully achieve their goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Reality of the Cumulative GPA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

8th grade has become the new junior year.  By the time students reach their junior and senior years, the lessons learned about the value of planning and utilizing 9th grade are too late.  That time can\u2019t be recaptured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Academic performance in the 8th grade often dictates high school placement. Whether a student lands in honors, AP, or regular tracks, these placements set the stage for their cumulative GPA. A weak schedule or average GPA freshman year can come back to limit opportunities during the college application process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
