Class 101-Dayton Awards Five Scholarships

Celebrates Record Year for Student Scholarships

Class 101-Dayton annually awards scholarships to high school students through its Excellence is a Habit Scholarship Fund. Five students achieved scholarships this year; three graduating seniors received the 101 Scholar Award, and two graduates received the Jamison Find Your Voice Scholarship Award.

Given to students of outstanding merit, the 101 Scholar program asks students to explain how they have made a difference in their community. The local 101 Scholarship winners are Kate Hoehn, a Springboro graduate who will attend Denison University; Vince Vorrasi, a Springboro graduate who will attend Case Western Reserve University; and Evie Widjaja, a Springboro graduate who will attend Purdue University.

Class 101-Dayton owners Karen and Tony DeRosa also awarded two scholarships to students in the performing arts. They awarded the Jamison Find Your Voice Scholarship to Rylee Bauer, a Springboro graduate who will attend Ohio University to major in Environmental Science and Sustainability. Centerville graduate Sophie Caton also received the Jamison Scholarship to put toward her studies in Musical Theatre at Manhattan School of Music.

The first Jamison Find Your Voice Scholarship was awarded in 2022 in honor of Beth Jamison, a vocal music teacher at Springboro High School who passed away in 2021. “Beth welcomed and encouraged all students to find and share their unique voice in her classroom. Beth proved that music could be an incredible force for understanding and equality in our schools and communities,” said Karen Lane DeRosa, Owner of Class 101-Dayton. “Our scholarship programs celebrate the difference-makers in our high schools. It is an honor to invest in their future achievements.”

With their Class of 2025, Class 101-Dayton achieved a new high record for scholarships. More than 50% of graduating seniors achieved at least one outside, competitive scholarship; the class total is more than $400,000. This is in addition to the $36.5 million in merit scholarship offers from colleges. Since 2020, Class 101-Dayton has awarded 25 scholarships ranging from $500 to $3,000 to students in the Miami Valley.
