Owner/College Planner
Hi! I’m Laura, the owner of Class 101 Overland Park. My husband, Thomas, and our two kids, Ian and Abigail moved from the Dallas-Fort Worth area to Overland Park in July of 2020. We have enjoyed calling the area HOME. I received my bachelor's degree in psychology from University of Texas at Arlington and my master’s degree in school counseling from Angelo State University. I taught 7th grade math for 5 years, and spent 6 years as a high school counselor, most recently in the Blue Valley School District. I enjoy working with students and families by assisting them in navigating the complex steps of college admissions, finding the right fit college for THEM and making college more affordable.Tara Lebar
College Advisor
Hi! I’m Tara. I’m excited to join Class 101 Overland Park as a college advisor. I’m an Overland Park native living in the area with my husband, Joe and our two sons, Eric & Cameron. A 20+ year educator, I’ve spent the majority of my career as a high school counselor with 14 years in the Blue Valley School district. While I was counseling, I specialized in helping students learn and understand the college admission process. I am a past president of the Great Plains Association for College Admission Counseling and a former Board Director for the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). Most recently, I spent 3 years working for the Kansas Board of Regents, leading the Apply Kansas admission program, and I started the Kansas Apply Free program. I enjoy helping students and families learn how to navigate the college admission process. I love helping students find their college fit, academically, socially and financially, and I can’t wait to help you too!Thomas Mungia

My name is Thomas, and I own Class 101 Overland Park in conjunction with my wife, Laura. We are blessed to call Overland Park home for the past 3 years. I am a first- generation college student, I earned my bachelor’s degree in marketing from The University of Texas at Arlington. I have worked in the financial industry for 22 years, my career started in a co-op program in high school as a part time teller. Though my background is in the financial industry, I have an appreciation for education’s importance. I am also bilingual in Spanish! Our goal is to find the right fit school for each student while making the overall college process less stressful for families.Owner

This is the second time my family has worked with Class 101. With my college planner’s help, I was able to improve my grades and write an amazing essay while abroad in Frankfurt, Germany. This made the distance between the two of us negligible, even before social distancing measures were put in place! Without Class 101, I would have been lost within the endless information required for applying to college. Thank you for making this difficult transition year so much more bearable!

Because of Class 101… wow, I really don’t think I can put it into words. I’m headed to my dream school. I have a resume that I’m proud of. I got my ACT score up. I’ve experienced the impact that positive affirmation can have on an overscheduled and under slept teenager. I understand the research process to find a school that fits for me. I’m not going to fall into the never-ending pit of despair that is student debt. I’m ready for whatever happens next.
I truly am.

Because of Class 101 I have grown as a student and as a person. Preparing for college can be tricky for high schoolers. Picking a college, deciding a major, and preparing for the ACT are just some of the things that Class 101 has been able to help me with over the last few years. My college planner, Tom, was able to guide me through one of the most important chapters in my life and I am forever grateful. I joined Class 101 as a sophomore with very little idea of what direction I wanted to take my life in. Now, I am just a few months from beginning my first semester of nursing school at the University of Louisville. Without the help of Class 101, I would not have as much confidence in myself and my decisions. Every moment over the last few years has been worth it.
