101 Scholar opens for 2022

The 101 Scholar Program is back!  At the national level, Class 101 will be recognizing four high school students who use their unique skills to make a difference in their community.  Class 101 of the Treasure Coast, the local Class 101 franchise, will also offer a scholarship to a local student.

Each national winner will win a $1,000 scholarship. The local scholarship will be $500. Last year, the Treasure Coast region had two winners. Christopher Carnes, from South Fork High School, won a $1000 national 101 Scholar prize. Jake Debien, of Martin County High School, won the $500 local 101 Scholar prize.

This year’s applications will be accepted beginning March 1, 2022 until May 1, 2022. Students who apply for the 101 Scholar contest will automatically be considered for both scholarships.

The 101 Scholar identifies students who exemplify demonstrated leadership in making their community a better place. Since the program started in 2017, Class 101 has granted $10,000 in scholarships to ten high school students across the United States.

This year, the scholarship is based 60% on the degree to which they are making a difference in the community, 30% on the extent to which they demonstrate leadership, and 10% on academic achievement. All high school students, regardless of grade, are eligible to apply.

“At Class 101, we know that college can be expensive, with costs topping six figures,” says Tom Pabin, Class 101 Founder and CEO. “Getting that cost down for students and families is one of our top priorities, and one of the ways we can do that is by awarding national scholarships.”

“Class 101 of the Treasure Coast is proud to participate in the 101 Scholar program,” said Mike O’Leary, local co-owner of Class 101 of the Treasure Coast. “We are pleased to reward an outstanding local student for their community service, leadership, and academic success.”

To apply, students have two options. They can create a video between 1-2 minutes or write a maximum 500-word personal statement. Students can pick from one of the two prompts below:

1. Describe a moment that pushed you to make a change. What did you do and what was the result?

2. Talk about one of your unique skills or talents. How have you used it to help your community?

We encourage all students to apply if they believe this sounds like the perfect opportunity for them.

Winners will be announced in June. Visit Class101.com/101scholar to apply.

Please contact Mike O’Leary, co-owner of Class 101 of the Treasure Coast for questions. Mike can be reached at (772) 247-2716 and at [email protected].
