About the scholarship.
Each year, the 101 Scholars Program selects a new group of scholars nationwide and awards multiple participants with a $1,000 scholarship. This year, four students will be chosen to win. The scholarship is based 60% on making a difference in the community, 30% demonstrating leadership and 10% on achievement in academics. High school students who are passionate about making a difference in their communities through volunteerism or creating their own service project are encouraged to apply.
How to apply?
To apply, students must submit a video between 60 and 90 seconds sharing what they do to make a difference and have a positive impact on their community. Students should describe the problem their community faces, its impact, their (potential) solution, and why they are passionate about it. The video should be submitted with the file name: “101Scholar_Name of Student_Name of High School_Date”. Students must also write and submit a 400-word personal statement about how they are demonstrating leadership and how this has shaped or affected them, or, aided them to help others. The personal statement should be submitted with the file name: “101Scholar_Name of Student_Personal Statement”. Students must submit their most recent transcript. The transcript should be submitted with the file name: “101Scholar_Name of Student_Transcript”. Finally, students must submit a cover page with: Name, Address, Email, Phone, High School and Graduation year. The cover page should be submitted with the file name: “101Scholar_Name of Student_Cover Page”.
When is the deadline?
Students can begin submitting their applications on March 1, 2021. All completed applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm EST on May 1, 2021.
Who is eligible?
Freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school are eligible to apply. The scholarship will be a one-time cash disbursement sent to the winner’s university.
How are the winners selected?
The winners will be selected by a panel of three judges. They will select the winner based on the selection criteria which, as stated above, will be based 60% on the video submission, 30% on the personal statement on leadership and 10% on academic achievement. The judges will take all of this criteria into consideration when choosing the four winners.
