Saturday, August 8 or Saturday, September 12 · 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Class 101 Office · 15850 W Bluemound Rd, Suite 101
The college essay is the one part of the application where a student gets to sound like a person instead of a GPA. It is also the part most seniors put off until mid-October, when everything else is due at the same time.
This workshop exists so that doesn’t happen to your student.
In three hours, students will:
Pick a topic that works. After twenty years reading application essays inside admissions offices, I can tell you the game-winning-goal essay and the mission-trip essay have been written roughly a million times each. We’ll find the story only your student can tell.
Get words on the page. This is a working session, not a lecture. Students leave with a real draft underway, not a pep talk about starting one.
Learn what admissions readers are looking for. Readers spend minutes on a file, not hours. Knowing how essays actually get read changes how you write one.
Free and open to any student. You do not need to be a Class 101 family to attend. Rising seniors will get the most out of it, but motivated juniors are welcome too.
Two sessions, same workshop. August 8 and September 12 are each standalone events covering the same material. Pick the Saturday that fits your calendar. August is the better choice if your student wants the essay done before senior year swallows the schedule.
What to bring. A laptop or a notebook, and any essay prompts your student’s colleges have already published. That’s it.
Teege Mettille spent more than twenty years in college admissions and enrollment, rising to vice president at small private colleges, before opening Class 101 Waukesha-Brookfield. He has read a few thousand of these essays from the other side of the desk, which turns out to be useful when you’re helping someone write one.
Space is limited so every student gets real attention.
