How Can I Raise My ACT?

In case you have forgotten or do not know, there are four sections on the ACT: English (75 question/ 45 minutes), Math (60 questions/ 60 minutes), Reading (40 questions/ 35 minutes), Science (40 questions/ 35 minutes) and then the optional writing portion.

Math is the easiest section to raise your score in. This section is the one where students make the little mistakes like miscalculations or trying to hurry through the problem without fully reading it. Take the time to learn your math formulas so that they are in your head. Also, focus on getting the first forty problems correct. Since the Math portion is sixty minutes long, you will really need to focus and stay focused. If you can stay really focused on the first forty problems, you should raise your math score.

The Reading and Science sections are only thirty-five minutes long. This is because all of the answers are already within the test. Read the passages and underline any relevant information. You may want to look into some reading software that will increase your reading speed while at the same time keeping your comprehension of the material up.

When it comes to the English section, forty of the seventy-five questions are mechanics questions. Make sure that you know proper grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. The other thirty-five questions fall in the category known as rhetorical skills. This will include organization, style, and strategy. You may have to add or delete sentences, judge a sentence for wordiness or awkwardness, and fix paragraphs so that they make the most logical and cohesive essay.

These are just a few tips and pieces of information about the ACT but, if you follow these tips and gain knowledge of the test, you should be in good position to make a gain on your ACT.
